I run a business that prints things to order and sometimes I have no time to figure out how to fix the problem with my printer so I run to the office store and just buy another one.

My current Epson, the WF, has been working well for the most part. But now all of a sudden, lines once again showed up on my prints. I ran a head clean through the maintenance tools thinking it would solve the problem. I tried this 3 times and had the same result every time. But it made everything WAY worse which makes absolutely no sense to me. The nozzle check would always show missing dashes in the same spot every time I ran it.

Prints looked even worse. I'm completely stumped on how a deep cleaning like this can make it worse. I made sure there was no more ink stuck in the print heads. Many recommend the glass cleaner Windex but there are now several different versions - so only the one with Ammonia is any good but far simpler and much cheaper to just get some Ammonia. Put the printhead into the Change Cartridge position. The unplug the power lead NOT turn printer off! You can now freely move the printhead side to side.

Put on some of the solution so the cloth is wet. Now move the printhead until it sits over the pad. You can then leave it for at least an hour. Lift ends and move side to side to wipe the underside of the printhead before removing. It will be very inky. Just replace power cord - start the printer and it will perform a clean after moving the printhead to its normal parked position as a first part of the process.

Do a nozzle check - it could take perhaps one more clean to clear all the nozzles. Good luck!A: This is a common issue, especially with Epson inkjet printers. There are some easy fixes, and we first have to identify what kind of banding you are seeing. There are 3 different types of banding:. If you are seeing dark banding, which can be dark lines going in the direction of the printhead, you should first run a process to re-align the printheads.

Epson calls this their 'Print Head Alignment', and can be found in the Utilities area of the printer driver.

How to fix Horizontal Banding on Epson Printer?

Dark banding occurs because there is too much overlap between the passes of the printhead, and a simple alignment can fix this most of the time. If this doesn't work you should disable high speed printing, which means the printhead only prints in 1 direction. This is recommended anyway, whether you are seeing banding or not. If you are seeing light banding, which can be light lines going in the direction of the printhead, you should try a Head Cleaning, as one of your printheads may not be firing correctly.

What should I do? If you notice white or dark lines in your prints also called bandingtry these solutions before you reprint: Run a nozzle check to see if any of the print head nozzles are clogged. Turn off any high speed settings in your product software.

Align the print head. If print quality does not improve after aligning the print head, disable the bidirectional high speed setting. Adjust the print quality in the product software. When horizontal banding appears or the top or bottom of the paper is smeared, load paper in the correct direction and slide the edge guides to the edges of the paper. When vertical banding appears or the paper is smeared, clean the paper path. You may need to refill the ink. Visually check the ink levels. If you have not used the product for a long time, run the Power Cleaning utility.

I will invest in a printer cover. I will also try a new cartridge. I have an the smaller and have had a banding problem also. Usually a head cleaning fixes that. Unfortunetly head cleaning sucks up lots of ink and can get costly if done too many times. The main reasons I think I might get banding are :.

People that use the printer everyday seem to have no banding. Do you use it every day? I happen to have a German shepard that sheds alot. She has been banned from the printer room.

Also if one of the inks are low it can cause banding. Those are the only reasons I can imagine. One time I cleaned the head about 5 times before it went away. I recently put new ink and have kept the printer clean and things have been printing well.

Its so nice to get a clean print. As a user for 9 months I can say that I have not experienced any banding whatsoever in the plus 8 x 10's I have printed or in the 25 plus A3 or Super-B prints. I have only had bad prints from the when it has been my fault or I have used a sample of a 3rd party paper I use Epson Inks and papers exclusively.

I do use my every day. My earlier photo printer was an Epson and it would demonstrate banding if not used for a week or so and also when the ink carts were low. I have not experienced this with the I have not read of any banding problems related to the when using Epson consumables.
